On May 5th, AVC-Rwanda reached families in Kagano Sector, Nyamasheke District, with a donation of 150 chickens to households identified as part of the most vulnerable in the community. The distribution was carried out in partnership with local leaders, who helped identify families that would benefit most from the initiative. Each household received chickens to raise at home, marking another step in AVC-Rwanda's ongoing commitment to walking alongside communities that need support the most.
The purpose of this donation goes beyond the chickens themselves. AVC-Rwanda wants these families to use them as a foundation for long-term development — selling eggs and offspring to generate small but steady income, and using what they produce to improve nutrition at home. Many of the families we work with struggle with unbalanced diets, particularly a shortage of protein for children. By giving them a sustainable source of eggs and meat, we hope to address both poverty and malnutrition at the same time, putting the tools for change directly in their hands.
